My favourite moments in weddings are those that are surprises. Tiffany and Levi put on a stunning wedding helped by the expertise of Barb and her team from French Kiss Events. The ceremony was at the breathtaking Hatley Castle with a grand reception at the Fairmont Empress Hotel in Victoria. But the most beautiful moment in the day, nestled between the live band, mojito bar and speeches, was an impromptu first dance down by the pier.
As we often do we (along with Ryan Flynn Photography) took the couple out for a 15 minute sunset shoot. These “Golden Hour” shots are always some of our favourite and we love to film soft, glowing images. As we headed to our destination we passed a band, busking to a small crowd. Of course, they all gave a “congrats” as we went by, but as soon as we stopped just a little way down the band called out and offered to play Tiffany and Levi’s first dance. The song was “Georgia” by Vance Joy and the band nailed it perfectly. When we shoot couples we always try to give direction that produces candid moments but all we had to do was give them a little space and hit record to capture a sequence of laughs, kisses and tender moments between a couple in love. Combined with that warm evening light and waterfront location we couldn’t help but feel stoked at the footage we got. There were high fives all around, of course.
The rest of the day and evening was incredibly memorable too. Verbena Floral Design and White Event Studio had Hatley Castle and The Empress Hotel decked out with florals and decor, respectively. And Side One Band kept the crowd entertained with their tight set of songs. I also have to give a special shout out to the Mom’s in the this wedding. They both gave speeches which really helped to show the romantic side and fun sides of the day. I guess its a little bit of a “hers and his” format, which is a little different. Great speeches make a HUGE difference to our wedding films, and these guys set us up perfectly.
Anyway, thats enough typing. There’s plenty of eye candy in this one, so Enjoy!
