This is why we Love a Kurtz Orchards Wedding at Gracewood Estate

Ever heard the expression “the more you put in the more you get out?”. Taylor and Jeremy’s Kurtz Orchard Wedding at Gracewood Estate is a prime example of putting this into practice. A beautiful ceremony surrounded by nature?…. Check. Brass band?….. Check. Sparkler first dance?….. Check. Silent Disco?….. Of course! And we’re only scratching the surface….

Kurtz Orchards is located in the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake, surrounded by maple trees, gardens, vineyards and the escarpment. What’s so great about this amazing venue is that it allows couples so much opportunity to show their guests a truly mesmerizing experience. By having a Kurtz Orchard Wedding you’re giving yourself so much choice when it comes to figuring out where you want everything to happen and how you want it to feel.

You can go with luxury, glamour and gourmet cuisine. Or you can embrace the spectacular Niagara-on-the-Lake scenery, with a relaxed nature-filled wedding and European-style dinner reception. You can also be like Taylor and Jeremy and do it all.

A Unique Couple Create a Unique Experience

Taylor and Jeremy created a truly unique experience for their guests, taking them on an incredible journey through Gracewood Estate at their Kurtz Orchards Wedding. They had a very clear vision of what they wanted and Laura from Muse Events did an exceptional job bringing it all together. Each event (the ceremony, cocktails, reception, first dances and party) were in separate areas of the venue, each with a completely different feel and atmosphere.

Taylor and Jeremy began their day at the Pillar and Post inn, getting ready with their best buds before meeting at Kurtz Orchards for their first look on the driveway. They were then joined by Forest (their pup) for an intimate photo session in the gardens. The day was HOT and with everyone melting, we decided to take a little break before the ceremony. These little moments of downtime are great for us because we have more opportunity to capture some extra location footage.

On our consultation call Taylor let us know that nature was an important element of their day to capture, and of course we were happy to oblige. Anyone who knows me, will tell you that I LOVE filming trees. I could literally spend a day filming trees. In fact if you watch through our films, you’ll see at least one “looking up at a tree” shot per film. Its pretty much the first thing I film when ever I show up to a location.

Taylor and Jeremy kept the nature theme running throughout the wedding. Instead of large floral pieces they opted for ferns and a drape hanging from that beautiful tree instead of an arch. The reception details (from the amazing Rachel Clingen Wedding and Event Design) added a touch of glamour that complemented the already-picture-perfect setting in the Orchard.

Despite the fairly high number of guests (we’re talking in the context of covid here) the ceremony felt very intimate and romantic. The classical music, the wind rustling in the trees and personal vows all contributed to a sense of calm. We also loved how Taylor and Jeremy incorporated a rope tying ceremony which allowed them to involve some of their most important guests into the ceremony as well.

A lot of the ceremonies we film are over pretty quickly, but I think people are missing a trick here. As someone who’s had a wedding, I felt like our ceremony was a highlight of our day. There is no other time in your life where you’ll feel that much positive energy bearing down on you from your most important people. So take the time really plan what you want to experience at your ceremony. Don’t rush through it, enjoy every moment and soak it all in.

Taylor and Jeremy’s ceremony was intimate and romantic with a sprinkling of fun and humour.

After the ceremony, the guests made their way into the garden for cocktails and canapés before heading to the orchard for the dinner reception. Guests seated along long tables, European style, surrounded by trees, candles and string lights. The set up allowed guests to easily interact with each other and for everyone to have a good view of those amazing speeches.

Taylor and Jeremy aren’t the type of people to enter their reception quietly, and were led in by the exceptional Sole Power Productions. Could this be something we see at more weddings please?! Live music contributes so much to the atmosphere and having a brass band added a ton of energy to kick things off (as well as entertaining guests during dinner). As the sun went down, the candles glowed, amazing food was served and we were all treated to stories from friends, family and the couple.

The evening portion of the wedding began with a first dance surrounded by sparklers and tiki torches. It was the perfect way to segue into the party by getting everyone out of their chairs and focused back on the couple. Taylor and Jeremy each danced with their parents before leading everyone into the tent for an all night dance party.

Again, live music was a big feature with The Real McBrowns keeping everyone entertained and on their feet. They played a fantastic set of oldie-but-goodies and showed the youngun’s how to party with unstoppable energy levels (and some mind blowing behind-the-head guitar playing).

Niagara on the lake has some pretty strict noise limits but that wasn’t going to stop Taylor and Jeremy. At 11pm, the band fell silent and the headphones came out. Yes, this was now a silent disco (courtesy of Silent Beat Events). If you’ve never been to one before you’re missing out.

Not only do YOU get to play DJ (well, you can choose between three different music feeds) you get to sing out of tune out loud with all your friends. It’s hilarious to watch and listen to. We spent he entire time giggling and laughing away filming guests stomp their feet and singing along. OK, if you’ve read this far, here’s a treat. Click on this link and you’ll see what we mean…..

Taylor and Jeremy kept their guests laughing and crying (but mostly laughing) throughout their Kurtz Orchards Wedding. As the experience unfolded we couldn’t help but ask ourselves “this can’t get keep getting better can it?….but it did. Each chapter of the journey was perfect and we feel so fortunate to have been able to capture it all.
