We can’t say enough how much we appreciate it. They are just so special!!!! <3 We are honored you were there to capture it and create these stunning films. Thank you again for making us a longer film, I would have been so sad if any of it had been cut out – as we watched I was hoping the film never ended….. ! We have been watching them over and over.” – Rachel + Clark
Don’t you love surprises? Like a batch of letters written every day with the last (and best) one on your wedding day? Or how about a giant coffee maker, somehow smuggled with your luggage from the US to Canada? We were blown away by how many amazing moments Rachel and Clark gave us to incorporate into their Extended Cinematic Film (you can read about our different film categories HERE). That was the best surprise for us. We love it when a couple throws themselves into their wedding.
Rachel and Clark’s big day came at the end of a big weekend; two weddings in Toronto, followed by a flight across Canada and a drive up the Sea to Sky Highway, all within 48 hours. But oh boy, it was worth it.
Making the Most of their Whistler Wedding Experience
Rachel and Clark are those people who make the most of every moment. They’re not content to do things half-hearted. They plan (with detailed spreadsheets), pull people together and celebrate in style. Whistler is a destination with true meaning to Rachel’s family. A place where they have spent a ton of time, more recently with Clark along for the ride. It only made sense for them to seal their nuptials in such a special part of the world.
The day began with some very easy going preparation. Sometimes you walk into a bridal suite and you can feel the anticipation and tension. There can be nerves, stress and noise. But not with Rachel. She and her bridal party chose to get ready in a bright, open and gorgeous mountain house on Cypress Drive.
It gave them plenty of room to roam about, snack away and for Rachel to find some privacy to ready those heartfelt love letters from Clark (more on that later). Once the dress was on we had time for a quick “reveal” before heading over to a hidden corner of Green Lake for the first look.
Leah (of Leah Kathryn Photography) is a local Whistler Wedding Photographer and hence knew of the perfect spot for Rachel and Clark’s first look. She led us down a fire road which opened out to that stunning vista. Clark didn’t have to wait too long to hear Rachel approach and they shared an intimate and emotional few minutes right there on the lake shore. We’re big fans of first looks because they’re unforgettable moments. Could you imagine watching this film without it? We hung around Green Lake to get some additional portrait and bridal party shots before heading up the Sea to Sky Highway to North Arm Farm.
A Breathtaking North Arm Farm Wedding
We’ve been itching to shoot a North Arm Farm Wedding for years. Not just because of it’s proximity to Whistler, but because of that absolutely drop dead gorgeous backdrop, sprawling grounds and unique character.
Outdoorsy weddings are among our favourite. They always feel a little more playful and whimsical. North Arm Farm is no exception. When the guests arrived you could see their faces light up at the natural beauty. The North Arm Farm crew were already cooking on the BBQ while serving refreshing drinks. The kids played on the swings and we had a chance to explore the ground while grabbing a few essential aerial shots like the one above.
When the guests settled down in their seats, there were presented with the most beautiful ceremony location under the watch of the majestic Mount Currie.. You can see from the image below how breathtaking this place is. It’s wide, open, humbling but at the same time intimate. When all you can here are the gentle sounds of birds tweeting and leaves rustling, you’re filled with a sense of calm. It helps to centre your concentration on the important moments of the ceremony.
A Leap of Faith: Their Unique Love Story
We loved how Rachel and Clark incorporated their love story into their day. From their letters, to their vows, to their gorgeous timeline decor and sharing a tub of their favourite ice cream in the middle of the dance floor. This was a wedding with a giant “Rachel and Clark” stamp all over it.
6 years ago Rachel met Clark bar. He smiled as she walked up to him and her parting words will be forever remembered: “I trust I’ll see you again Clark”. Fast forward to Clark’s romantic gesture on the lead up to their wedding. 37 days of letters, looking back at their wonderful relationship. A relationship fostered through great courage and trust.
As soon as we began editing their film, it became clear that Clark’s letter and their vows would form the backbone to their narrative. It’s such a privilege when two people open up about their memories in front of their closest friends and family and we had so much to work with!
Their words paint a picture of their intertwined lives that have surely built a foundation for a beautiful marriage. They also worked perfectly with some of the visuals that we captured, such as Rachel walking up to Clark, their first dance and of course, those stunning sunset shots.
“Ours is a story of more than just co-incidence….In a crowded room I took a leap of faith and then our adventure began”
An Unforgettable North Arm Farm Wedding Like No Other
One of the things we loved about Rachel and Clark’s Whistler wedding was the guest experience. We’ve already talked about the ceremony, but it’d be a disservice not to mention the rest of the day.
Because Rachel and Clark had already had portrait and bridal party photos at Green Lake, they had the time to mingle with guests during their cocktails hour. There were some very tasty hors d’oeuvres, entertaining lawn games and plenty of time to explore the grounds. Dinner was served at long tables to encourage a little more social interaction with some emotional and humorous speeches in between courses.
As the sun went down, we took Rachel and Clark away for 10 minutes for some sunset photos while their guests moved to the Barn for the first dance. Taking a little time for some sunset shots is essential when you’re having an outdoor wedding at a venue like North Arm Farm. Aren’t those shots so dreamy? The light was perfect, warm and we were so happy with how they turned out.
For the first dance, Rachel and Clark mixed in a few pre-choreographed moves (practised during the sunset session, of course) for an effortless looking performance while they were surrounded by guests. It was one of those moments that summed them up perfectly as a couple; easy-breezy and loved by so many. The party kicked off just as the sun disappeared behind the mountains and what a night it was. From the moment the first tune dropped, the room was packed, with some exquisite moves, hugs galore and laughs all around.
