Glamorous Wolfe Island Wedding | Abigail & Roland

“This is remarkable! We have probably watched the video over 100 times now – we love it soooo much!!! It’s been such a pleasure working with you. From the bottom of our hearts thank you so much. Your video is a work of art and you are so amazing at what you do. You crafted our day so beautifully and this will be something we’ll forever watch to remember our special day.” – Abbey & Roland

What a gorgeous, glamorous, romantic, emotional and sweaty wedding this was! On one of the hottest days of the year (40+!) Abbey and Roland tied on the knot on Wolfe Island, with their reception hosted at Abbey’s family home. It sure was an adventure, with ferry rides, speedboat rides, horse-drawn carriage rides and the party of the century, all whilst being surrounded by beautiful lake front scenery. We love that even after so many years of filming weddings, we get to shoot in places that we might never known about, or visited before. What an experience this was.

Abbey and Roland are high school sweethearts. After Roland plucked up the courage to ask for Abbey’s number while she was working at Milestones, they began their global journey together. Just like their wedding, their story is one of adventure as well. From high school, to university, Carolina, Sweden and Colorado (Roland is a professional Hockey player), they have faced many challenges, but the strength of their love conquered all odds.

We journeyed to Wolfe Island on the afternoon before their wedding to film the Rehearsal Dinner as well as an adventure and portrait session with Abbey and Roland. Being able to spend some time with a couple before the wedding really helps us to learn more about each individual as well as to understand the dynamics between family and friends. We also think the footage we’re able to capture adds so much to the feel of the film, by showing a little life outside the wedding day. It helps to add personality and depth to the story.

We also had the opportunity to spend additional time with Courtney (Courtney Elizabeth Events) and  Reid (of Will Reid photography) which helped us to build a super collaborative and creative partnership. We began Abbey and Roland’s portrait session under some willow tress by the waterfront before jumping into some vintage speedboats for a little fun. When we returned dinner was ready and guests made their way onto the dock where they could enjoy good conversation, some speeches, tasty food and a stunning sunset.

The wedding day began at two separate Air Bnb’s where Abbey and Roland had lots of space to enjoy a relaxing and fun-filled morning with their respective bridal parties. Once ready, we headed to the first look location (a Friend’s private property) and placed Roland on a large rock slab next to the lake. We love first looks, and Abbey and Roland’s was especially touching. There were a few tears (happy ones, of course!) and beautiful moments that we were able to capture.

The ceremony was conducted at Sacred Heart of Mary church, a familiar location for Abbey’s family. They exchanged their personal vows in front of their friends and family, before being whisked away on a cinderella-esque horse drawn carriage back to the family property, a stunning venue perched on lake Ontario.

After cocktails on the lawn and some energetic entrances it was time for speeches where we heard more about Abbey and Roland’s story as well as some insightful anecdotes from friends. As the sun went down, Reid and I took them to the dock for a sunset portrait session. It was quiet, peaceful and a great opportunity for Abbey and Roland to relax in each others arms to the sound of the waves, after such a busy and exciting day.

The evening ended with their first dance and parent dances, after which the dance floor opened to a crowd of party-ready guests. Ambush Army kept everyone on the dance floor late into their night with some wonderful played live music. It really was an epic party and one so so much fun to film! As we already said, this was a hot one. We’ve never sweated so much in our lives! We returned to our hotel absolutely exhausted, but with a big grin on our faces, knowing that we’d just captured one amazing wedding.
