Destination Wedding Cinematography Cast Felix Sitges Barcelona Spain

Best Destination Wedding Cinematography | Casa Felix, Sitges Spain | Jo and Matt

We won “Best Destination Wedding Cinematography” at the BC Wedding Awards!!

Winning “Best Destination Wedding Cinematography” was totally unexpected. We came up against some amazing films from other BC Wedding Videographers and it was an honour to stand beside them. We put a huge amount of effort into our wedding films but so much of what makes this video great is down to the couple: Jo and Matt. They were the ones who picked Casa Felix and decorated the venue. They picked their outfits, wrote their vows and invited lifelong friends and family. This wedding is a perfect expression of themselves and all we had to do was point, shoot and put it all together.

Casa Felix, Sitges, near Barcelona – A Perfect Wedding Venue

Jo and Matt decided to get married at Casa Felix in a village called Oliviella, near to Sitges in Spain. It is somewhere they have visited regularly and it made sense to them to be there for such an important event. They spent the week surrounded by stunning scenery and their closest friends and family. They partied in Sitges (during Pride week as well!), relaxed by the pool at Casa Felix had many many meals together. It helped that one of their guests just happened to be a chef!

Casa Felix is such a unique venue and perfectly set up for weddings. When you arrive you are greeted by huge wooden doors. You walk through a courtyard and soon find yourself exploring a warren of corridors, going from room to room. The villa is super old. As in parts of it are 900 years old! There is so much history and yet it is seamlessly merged with modern comforts. Finally you emerge to the main attraction: the infinity pool overlooking the valley. It really is a spectacular view.

On the wedding day itself, Matt and Jo were spoilt for choice. The grounds offer so many locations for wedding ceremonies, photoshoots and cocktail receptions. There’s also a great barn conversion which is used as a party room, complete with sound system and lights. I think festivities finished around 4am! Its no wonder this place gets booked out….

This is why we LOVE Destination Weddings!

One of the best things about destination weddings is that we really get the time to spend with the couple, their friends and their family. We can capture footage before the wedding day and all the preparations for the event. Most importantly we can build an extra level of comfort between ourselves and the guests so that everyone gets a little more used to having a camera around!

For Jo and Matt we decided to shoot a BBQ a couple of nights before the wedding. It was the first day that all the guests were in one place, meeting up with old friends and making new ones.  I think that introduction adds so much flavour to the film. It helps to paint the picture of what it was like to be there and how these guys interact outside of the wedding environment. When we make our films, we want a stranger to be able to “get” the couple. To feel like they understand who they are and why they are so likeable. I think that extra time that we’re able to put into destination wedding cinematography really helps that come across.

Shooting in Spain with Blush Wedding Photography and All Dolled Up Studio

Exactly one year before this wedding, Danielle and I were married in Italy. And we were so lucky to have our friends from Blush Wedding Photography, capture our day. Fast forward twelve months and here we were all working together in Spain! Their photos turned out spectacularly and we have featured one as our cover photo on this video. You can check them out here.

Danielle (who also owns All Dolled Up Studio) provided hair and makeup for Jo. Her natural styling perfectly complimented the whimsical tone of the day and Jo’s dress choice. Because we stayed with the couple at the villa we organized a post-wedding shoot. It gave the couple the opportunity to get dressed up again and take some spectacular shots. It also meant that Jo could try something a little different to her style the day before.
